The Most Romantic Places in Paris

There is a good reason why Paris is called the “City of Love”! Paris is really a magical city! Indeed there are plenty of places perfect for a romantic stroll or just to sit and enjoy the views. Whether you are visiting the French capital with a loved one, or by yourself looking for lovely spots to inspire your imagination, this article is for you! I am sharing here the most romantic places in Paris, so that you never forget your visit here!

As a Parisian, I added my secret local tips to help you enjoy these romantic places at their best! You will find here a mix of famous spots (and how to enjoy them without the crowd) and more intimate hidden gems.

Are you planning to visit Paris for Valentine’s Day? I also got you covered with some romantic activities ideas and the best places to buy flowers and chocolates in Paris!

The Pont des Arts in Paris is nicknamed the “love locks bridge“. Since 2008, tourists have taken to attaching padlocks (love locks) with their names to the railing or the grate on the side of the bridge, then throwing the key into the Seine river below, as a romantic gesture. But in 2014, part of the parapet on the bridge collapsed under the weight of all of the padlocks that had been attached to it: over a million locks were placed, weighing approximately 45 tons! Therefore the City Hall of Paris replaced the panels of the bridge with glass panels so that locks cannot be attached.

Nevertheless this bridge has still some of the most beautiful views of Paris as you can see here! If you are looking for the most romantic places to visit during your trip to Paris, this one is definitely recommended!

You may remember it from Emily in Paris, as it’s one of the filming locations in Season 2!

My secret tip: come here at sunrise or at sunset to enjoy the most perfect moment!

Location: Pont des Arts

Closest Metro stations: Pont Neuf (line 7), Louvre-Rivoli (line 1), and Palais Royal Musée du Louvre (line 1 and 7).

Eiffel Tower from the quays of the Seine

I guess you would love to admire the most famous landmark of Paris far away from the crowd! One of the great places to see the Eiffel Tower from close up with almost no one around is the quays of the Seine by Iena bridge. Once you are in front of the Iena Bridge facing the Eiffel Tower, just walk down the stairs on the left or on the right side and take it all in!

Every night, from sunset to 1am (2am in summer), the Eiffel tower is sparkling for 5 minutes every hour at the beginning of the hour. It’s absolutely magical and beyond romantic! I highly recommend you to enjoy it from this place!

My secret tip: Do not miss any of the best places to admire the Eiffel Tower! I added all my local tips to take the best photos of the Iron Lady 🙂 .

Location: Pont d’Iéna

Closest Metro stations: Trocadéro (line 6 and 9) and Gare Champ de Mars Tour Eiffel (RER C).

The neighborhood of Montmartre looks like a village within the capital city. It really reunites all the clichés you might have about Paris! It’s really charming and perfect for pictures! The best way to discover it is to get lost in the streets, and to walk up and down the numerous stairs in the area. This is the kind of places that can make you forget that you are in Paris!

Here are some of the most romantic places in Montmartre:

  • The carousel in front of the Sacré-Coeur basilica in Square Louise Michel.
  • Square Marcel Bleustein Blanchet with a lovely view of the Sacré-Coeur basilica.
  • Rue de l’abreuvoir, the street where you can find the famous Maison Rose restaurant. The whole driveway is bordered with beautiful houses.
  • Le Mur des Je T’Aime: this wall covering a surface of 40m² is made of 612 squares of enamelled lava, on which ‘I love you’ features 311 times in no less than 250 languages!

My secret tip: have a look at my list of the most instagrammable places in Montmartre! I added their exact location in case you want to take romantic photos with your partner!

Location: area of Montmartre

Closest Metro stations: Anvers and Blanche on line 2, and Abbesses and Lamarck Caulaincourt on line 12.

Jardin du Luxembourg

The Luxembourg gardens are located in the 6th arrondissement of Paris. This park is very beautiful in all seasons: it is my favorite garden in Paris! It’s a very nice place for a stroll: it’s decorated with flowers and some statues are standing all around the park! And there is also a big bassin around the one you can sit. Therefore I can really recommend the Luxembourg gardens as one of the most romantic places in Paris. Additionally it’s one of the best parks and gardens in Paris so you shouldn’t miss it!

You may have seen it in Emily in Paris, as it’s one of the filming locations!

My secret tip: Inside the garden you will find the beautiful Fontaine de Médicis. You can sit here for a moment it’s very pleasant!

Location: Jardin du Luxembourg

Closest Metro stations: St Germain des Près (line 4), Mabillon (line 10), St Sulpice (line 4), Luxembourg (RER B), Rennes (line 12).

Pont Alexandre III

Pont Alexandre III is the most elegant bridge of Paris and one of my favorite ones! It is a great place to appreciate some beautiful views over the Seine river and the Eiffel Tower. Moreover, the Invalides, the Grand Palais and the Petit Palais are some of the most interesting landmarks around here.

My secret tip: I recommend you watch the sunset from here. It’s the best time of the day to enjoy this romantis place in Paris!

Location: Pont Alexandre III

Closest Metro stations: Invalides (line 8 and 13 and RER C) or Champs Élysées Clemenceau (line 1 and 13)

Place des Vosges in Le Marais

Place des Vosges is the oldest planned square in Paris. Walking inside the park is real pleasure. Here you feel like you are in a peaceful cocoon away for the hustle and bustle of the city. It’s one of the most charming and one of the most romantic places in Paris! Actually if you have seen Emily in Paris Season 2, you may recognize Place des Vosges as the place where Mindy and Benoit share their first kiss!

Place des Vosges is located in the area named Le Marais, my favorite neighborhood in Paris. I highly recommend you walk around here and enjoy all the boutiques, cafes, restaurants or museums.

My secret tip: a lovely place that you can discover around Place des Vosges is  le Jardin de l’Hôtel de Sully. The entrance of this garden is free. It’s especially nice in fall as a few walls are covered with ivy! Also do not miss the entrance of Le Pavillon de la Reine. This boutique hotel has a lovely little courtyard with ivy covered facades! It’s very romantic and you can enjoy the tables of the restaurant in the courtyard even if you are not staying at the hotel.

Location: Place des Vosges

Closest Metro stations: St Paul (line 1)

Square du Vert Galant

Are you looking for a secret romantic spot in Paris? Then you will love Square du Vert Galant! This lovely garden situated in the center of Paris by the Pont Neuf is still rather unknown by the tourists. You can find there a picturesque weeping willow and it’s a perfect spot to watch the boats on the Seine, the Louvre Museum and the Hôtel de la Monnaie!

My secret tip: how to access it? Once you are on the bridge Pont Neuf, take the stairs to go down and you will find the square. As it is quiet, for sure you will enjoy a lovely time there! In summer expect a lot of locals to enjoy picnic here though.

Location: Square du Vert Galant

Closest Metro stations: Pont Neuf (line 7)

More info: Square du Vert Galant

Parc des Buttes Chaumont

You can find the Parc des Buttes-Chaumont in the north-east of Paris. With its 25 hectares, it is one of the biggest and best gardens in Paris. This green space is full of treasures: caves and waterfalls, a suspended bridge, an artificial lake, and break areas where you can get something to eat. It features all the ingredients for one of the most romantic places in Paris!

My secret tip: the prettiest spot of the park is the Temple de la Sibylle (inspired by the Temple of Vesta in Tivoli, Italy), perched at the top of a cliff above the artificial lake. From up here you can appreciate stunning views of Paris!

Location: Parc des Buttes Chaumont

Closest Metro stations: Botzaris (line 7B), Buttes Chaumont (line 7B), and Laumière (line 5)

More info: Parc des Buttes Chaumont

Bridge of Bir Hakeim

Pont de Bir Hakeim is a bridge that crosses the river Seine. Not only this bridge has a pretty unique architecture with its steel columns, but it also offers one of the most epic viewpoints of the Eiffel Tower!

Many famous movies have featured the bridge, like Inception. It is highly photogenic and part of the most romantic places of Paris!

My secret tip: you will get the best light here at sunrise.

Location: Pont de Bir Hakeim

Closest Metro stations: Bir Hakeim or Passy line 6, and RER C Station Champs de Mars Tour Eiffel.

Place Dauphine

Place Dauphine is one of the most charming squares in Paris! You will find it in the center of Paris in the 1st arrondissement, near Notre Dame and close to the Pont Neuf. You will be surprised by its original and unique triangular shape! It dates back to 1607 when the king Henry IV requested to create public squares in Paris.

Place Dauphine is surrounded by beautiful buildings with traditional Parisian facades. Fun fact is that the famous actors Yves Montand and Simone Signoret used to live here at the number 15!

My secret tip: Place Dauphine is even more charming in May when the chestnut trees are in bloom, or for Christmas as it’s decorated with Christmas trees.

Location: Place Dauphine

Closest Metro stations: Pont Neuf (line 7) or Cité (line 4).

Parc Monceau

The Parc Monceau, located not far from the Champs Elysées, is very pleasant to walk in! It includes a collection of scaled-down architectural features, or follies — including an Egyptian pyramid, a Chinese fort, a Dutch windmill, and Corinthian pillars! You will find many pretty corners and cannot but enjoy this romantic place in Paris! You shouldn’t miss it because it’s one of the best parks and gardens in Paris!

My secret tip: do not miss the charming bridge in the middle of the park!

Location: Parc Monceau

Closest Metro stations: Monceau (line 2), Villiers (line 2 and 3), Malesherbes (line 3)

What to do in Paris for Valentine’s Day?

Paris is definitely one of the most romantic places to spend Valentine’s Day in the world! Firstly Paris offers many photogenic places. Secondly the ambiance here is perfect for romance. That’s why it was so often the set up for love stories in movies. This has inspired many people to propose to their partner in Paris! Thirdly Paris provides amazing cuisine and fabulous hotels, so you will have plenty of choice to please your loved one!

Here are some of the best things to do in Paris for Valentine’s Day.

You can start by visiting all the places I recommended above. I gave you plenty of options between viewpoints, bridges, parks or charming areas!

Of course, you shouldn’t miss the Eiffel Tower sparkling at night. It happens every hour from sunset to 1 am in winter.

Walking along the river Seine together is also a good idea. The banks of the Seine are rather quiet in February, so you won’t be disturbed by a crowd. But the ideal would be to take a cruise on the Seine! Some of the cruise companies are also proposing dinner cruises.

If you love the opera or ballet, I recommend taking your sweetheart to the Opera Garnier for a show. The architecture of this place is absolutely magnificent and will blow you away! If you cannot book a show, you can also visit it during the day.

And how about a show at one of the iconic Parisian cabarets? Check out the Moulin Rouge, the Crazy Horse, the Lido or the Paradis Latin!

Paris being a foodie heaven, you should book a romantic dinner for Valentine’s Day! As a food concierge I will give you the best restaurant recommendations! You can also have a look at these cute Parisian cafes!

Where to buy flowers in Paris?

If you want to buy flowers in Paris, I will give you here 3 of my favorite Parisian flower shops!

  • L’Arrosoir: this is one of the oldest flower shops in Paris. You will love stepping in this 100-years-old boutique! It’s impossible not to enjoy its vintage style and its magnificent flowers! They can create for you the most gorgeous bouquets! The owner Adrienne is passionate and super friendly (she’s an American friend of mine).
  • LuvBox: in this cute flower shop you can find not only fresh or dried flowers, but also giant teddy bears and eternal roses! It’s a good idea if you want to surprise your loved one with an original gift! And do not miss their pretty facade and in store decorations!
  • Deschamps Fleuriste: this flower shop has not only a beautifully decorated facade but they have also some amazing flowers for a bouquet! And you can reach out to them for any facade or event decoration!

Where to buy chocolates in Paris?

If you want to buy chocolates in Paris, I have a complete guide with all the best chocolatiers in Paris!

You will know everything about their story, why their chocolates are so good, their specialties and where to find their chocolates shop in Paris. And because Parisian Chocolates are a very good Valentine’s day gift idea, I am also giving you their delivery locations in the world!

In Conclusion…

I hope you will have some precious moments enjoying these most romantic places in Paris! Which one are you going to see first?
