The Very Best Coffee Shops in Paris

Are you wondering where are the best coffee shops in Paris? I got you covered! As a Parisian and a foodista, I am always on the hunt for the best places to eat and drink here in Paris. All of the cafes that I am about to share with you serve amazing coffee, lattes and other drinks, plus they have delicious food! Would it be for breakfast, brunch, lunch or teatime, you will enjoy them!

Before you start to dig in my list of the best coffee shops in Paris, I just want to tell you something important. Parisian people love their coffee in the morning and their brunch in the weekend, and those cafes being the best ones of Paris, they are all popular. Therefore, if you do not want to wait in line starving for 30 min to 1 hour in front of the coffee shop, it’s better to come during the week or early morning during the weekend. On Saturday and Sunday, it starts to get busy around 11:30 and if you show up around noon for sure you will have to queue! Now you know 😉

I have ranked those best coffee shops in Paris simply by alphabetical order.

Brunch in 5 Pailles - Paris
Brunch in 5 Pailles - Paris

5 Pailles is a lovely coffee shop located in the buzzling area of Strasbourg – St Denis in Paris. It offers specialty coffee and brunch all day. 5 Pailles was created by 5 friends fed up with not being able to have a decent coffee is the typical Parisian Cafés. They are supplying their coffee from different European roasters, amongst others Lomi in Paris (Berlin: Bonanza, Aarhus: La Cabra, Oslo: Talor& Jørgen). Their matcha latte is excellent too.

All the food is homemade and inspired by a mix between Turkish and Californian cuisine. Here are some of the tasty things you can find on the menu: pastries, cakes, granola bowl, pancakes, salads, toasts, sandwiches, shakshuka, eggs…

The staff is the nicest, which is a great added value!

Vegan options, Gluten Free options and Dairy Free options

My favorite on the menu: the cinnamon roll is to die for!

Location: 79 rue du Faubourg-Saint-Denis 75010 Paris

Opening hours: Weekdays 8:00 to 19:00 and weekends 10:00 to 19:00

Back in Black

Brunch in Back in Black - Paris

Back in Black is a modern coffee shop located close to the lively area of Bastille in Paris. The café is very bright and has been designed by an architect to highlight the work of the barista behind the bar. It’s the second coffee shop opened by the team from KB Coffee Roasters, roasters since 2015 (the other one is near Pigalle in the 9th arrondissement). Their specialty coffee is fresh, seasonal and has a single origin. I also recommend the chai latte.

They serve breakfast all day with homemade food (even the bread and the jams are homemade). Here are some of the delicious things you can find on the menu: pastries, scones and buns, granola bowl, eggs, grilled cheese and other savory dishes.

They even organize workshops if you want to learn how to roast and brew coffee, and how to bake croissants, pains au chocolat or éclairs.

The room is quite big, which is great as it allows many customers.

Vegan options, Gluten Free options and Dairy Free options.

My favorite on the menu: You have to try the Sticky rolls cardamome & Caramel, so original and so indulgent! The French toast with lime cream was also super yummy!

Location: 25 rue Amelot 75011 Paris

Opening hours: Weekdays: 9:00 to 17:00 and Weekends 10:00 to 18:00

One of the talents of Bon Bouquet Café sits in the presentation of plates. They are all very pretty and often decorated with edible flowers! Here are some of the yummy things you can find on the menu: smoothie bowl, granola bowl, pancakes, French toast, Eggs Benedict, egg burger, avocado toast, cakes and cookies. The staff is super kind!

Breakfast in Café Oberkampf, Paris

Café Oberkampf is a little cozy coffee shop located in the young and dynamic district of Oberkampf in Paris. The specialty coffee is coming from the famous Coutume Café in Paris. If you don’t drink coffee you can try their chai latte.

Here are some of the good things you can find on the menu: a version of the traditional French breakfast with bread, and peanut butter, almond butter, or jam, but also some granola bowls, Bircher muesli, grilled cheese sandwiches, avocado toast or shakshuka.

Vegan options, Gluten Free options and Dairy Free options

My favorite on the menu: I didn’t try it but the Shakshuka is one of their specialty! I also recommend the granola bowl and the Bircher muesli.

The place is small but very bright, and you will find a touch of color here and there with the beautiful bouquets of flowers! Their specialty coffee is coming from London and their roasters is Workshop Coffee. Denis Léonard as a professional barista and owner of the place is taking care of it. Sarah Umer, co-owner of Cuppa Café and partner of Denis, created her own brand of organic vegan golden latte: “Pampille”. You should also give it a try as you are here!

The plates are full of colors and very nicely presented: a feast for the eyes! Here are some of the appealing dishes that you can find on the menu (all is veggie): pastries, and fresh bread for breakfast, granola bowls, chia pudding, and homemade cakes for all-day brunch, and salads and toasts for lunch.

Their specialty coffee by the roaster Canyon Coffee is also coming from LA!

Everything on the menu is homemade and California inspired, mixing local products and spices from all over the world. Holybelly 5

Brunch in Holybelly 5 - Paris
Brunch in Holybelly 5 - Paris

This trendy Australian inspired coffee shop is located in the convivial area of République – Canal St Martin in Paris. The spot is really cool and very popular, lots of expats are working here. Therefore you won’t have any issues ordering in English! One of their coffee roasters is Belleville Brûlerie from Paris.

They serve an all-day breakfast menu with sweet and savory pancakes (their specialty), granola bowl, black rice porridge, eggs dishes, and two special dishes rotating daily. It’s always busy but the service is very fast.

Vegan options, Gluten Free options and Dairy Free options.

My favorite on the menu: the pancakes of course!

Location: 5 Rue Lucien Sampaix 75010 Paris

As the place is very popular, they also have another restaurant in the same street a few meters further: Holybelly 19, in 19 Rue Lucien Sampaix 75010 Paris. This second place is smaller with a different concept: here we share plates like sophisticated tapas for brunch, or we have lunch.

Opening hours: Every day from 9:00 to 17:00 (last food order at 16:00)

Kitsuné Café

Maison Kitsuné is a quality music label, a clothing and design brand, and now even a trendy coffee shop! There are 3 addresses in Paris under the iconic fox logo: two tiny cafes – one in the garden of Palais Royal and one close to the Tuileries (better to take away) – and one design restaurant close to the Louvre Museum. Their coffee is a unique roast, created specifically for the cafe by Workshop Coffee in London. You can also enjoy one of their matcha latte: there is a nice Japanese touch to many things on the menu at Café Kitsuné.

The small cafes in Palais Royal and Tuileries only offers some yummy gluten free cakes, cookies, and shortbreads from NOGLU in Paris. In the restaurant close to the Louvre the chef Chihiro Yamazaki serves some French bistro classics, revisited with a unique Japanese touch. Here are some of the good dishes you can find all day on the menu for breakfast: granola bowl, pastries, Portobello Egg Benedict, avocado toast, or Japanese Dorayaki Pancakes. As it’s a restaurant you also find dishes and desserts for lunch and dinner, and some cocktails.

Be aware that this place is rather expensive, and the portions are small.

If you prefer savory you have the following options: toasties, quiche, avocado toast, soup and salads.

Brunch in Passager Café - Paris

Passager Café is a trendy coffee shop co-founded by an Instagram fashion influencer and is located in the dynamic and diverse area of Ledru-Rollin in Paris (not far from Bastille and Gare de Lyon). The deco of the place is really cool with brick walls, photogenic tiles, lots of windows to let the light enter and a random blue bike against the wall at the back! The barista is serving a coffee from the famous Berlin roaster Five Elephants amongst others. The latte arts are super cute, even if you take a matcha or a chai latte!

What’s on the menu? There is a large choice of pancakes, of bagels, of toasts, of eggs, of French toasts. You can also find a granola bowl, a chia bowl and some pastries.

Vegetarian options

My favorite on the menu: I am still dreaming about that French toast! But if you like savory you’re gonna have to take one of the bagels!

Location: 107 Avenue Ledru-Rollin 75011 Paris

Opening hours: Tuesday-Saturday: 8:30-to 18:30 and Sunday from 10:00 to 18:30 – the kitchen is closing every day at 17:30 (closed on Monday). No reservation.

République of Coffee

République of Coffee is a cool coffee shop located in the popular and friendly area of République in Paris. The decor is very retro with pink neon lights and mirror on the ceiling, and it’s very nice to sit at their glazed terrace. One of their main roasters is The Beans on Fire from Paris. They are also doing great lattes: their charcoal latte is quite cool!

Food wise at Republique of Coffee you can find smoothies bowls, pancakes, French toast, pastries and some Mexican influenced dishes like guacamole toasts, huevos rancheros, veggie bowls, salads or burger. The dishes are homemade.

Vegetarian options.

My favorite on the menu: Check out the homemade cakes at the counter! I always pick the carrot cake (yumm) but the other ones look good too!

Saint Pearl

Brunch in Saint Pearl - Paris
Brunch in Saint Pearl - Paris

Saint Pearl is a tiny convivial coffee shop located in the chic area of St Germain in Paris. I loved this place at first sight because of all the wooden furniture (tables and seats) and the stone wall! They serve specialty coffee, but St Pearl is also one of the best places in town for matcha and chai lattes!

The menu is seasonal and homemade. Here are some examples of the treats you can get here: pancakes, French toast, pastries, but also savory toasts, salads, Eggs Benedict, shakshuka and other dishes of the day.

Something to know: there are no toilets here!

Vegan options, Gluten Free options and Dairy Free options

My favorite on the menu: My French toast was absolutely delish!

Location: 38 Rue des Saints-Pères 75007 Paris

Opening hours: Weekdays 8:00 to 19:00, and Weekends :10:30-18:00

Sunday in Soho

Brunch in Sunday in Soho - Paris
Brunch in Sunday in Soho - Paris

Sunday in Soho is a welcoming coffee shop located in the bustling area of Grands Boulevards in Paris. The couple owning the place lived 10 years in NYC. When they moved to Paris, they decided to open the café because they were missing the good vibes and the good food they could find in their local delis in NYC. Not surprising therefore that their motto is “good vibes served daily”! Their specialty coffee is roasted by Coutume Café in Paris. They are also mastering the latte art and they have cool lattes on the menu: like the beetroot latte for example.

The food is American inspired with bacon and eggs breakfast plate, fried chicken, sweets and savory pancakes. But you can also order other yummy dishes for breakfast, brunch or lunch: acai bowl, granola bowl, brioche toast, avocado toast, sandwiches, salad bowls with meat/fish and vegetables, and pastries.

Vegetarian options.

My favorite on the menu: I brought here one of my American friends and she kept on saying how the Naughty Biscuit was amazing (bacon, egg, cheddar on homemade buttermilk biscuit with a side of breakfast potatoes). I am more into sweets and I just love everything here!

Location: 7 Rue Saint-Marc 75002 Paris

Opening hours: Weekdays 8:30 to 16:00 and Weekends 10:30 to 17:00

Télescope

Breakfast in Télescope - Paris
Breakfast in Télescope - Paris

Télescope is a little coffee shop located in the center of Paris close to Palais Royal. The spot is really simple and minimalist and there is no wi-fi, but if there is no effort made on the decoration and the extras, the coffee worth the visit! The owner of the place is really passionate about coffee and the beans are coming from international roasters. Do not hesitate to ask for recommendations! Of course, if you do not drink coffee, you can find something else like lattes. As Telescope is all about coffee, do not expect a real food menu here, but they serve breakfast (bread, scones, granola and yogurt) and cakes.

Lots of customers are locals but expats like Japanese people as the Japanese district is right close by.

My favorite on the menu: I had a scone and a granola and they were both good!

Location: 5 Rue Villedo 75001 Paris

Opening hours: Monday to Friday: 8:30 to 17:00 (closed in the weekend)

Oh wow! Thank you for this super useful information for the next time I am in Paris. Though not sure when that will be. I usually go in the fall for FW and to visit my step family who live there or just west in the Bolougne area. But I don’t think I will make it this year. You do photography? Me too!! I like to shoot street style and do in NY and Paris. I also blog and vlog about my trips. Perhaps when I do come to Paris we may be able to meet up. Just don’t know when that will be : ( merci pour ca post!
